Kiara “Cookie” Carrier goes 3 for 4 with 3 run homer in her first college outing

Memphis, Tenn. – Evangel softball team opened its 2015 campaign with a split against NCAA II Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn. Evangel won the first game 10-4 but fell in game two 9-4.

The Crusaders won game one on strength of two three run home runs. Kasie Zukow hit a three run homer in the third as part of a five-run inning for the Crusaders. Kiara Carrier hit her three run shot with two outs in the fifth that put Evangel in front 9-3.   Carrier went 3 for 4 in the game with a double, home run and four RBIs.

Sophomore Michaela Tolliver picked up the win going six innings allowing four runs, one earned and eight hits.

The Crusaders started game two where they left off with a two run first inning.  Megan Washam hit a two run home run with one out scoring Cassidy Gillihan.  A six run second inning for Christian Brothers followed by a three run third inning put Evangel in a 9-2 hole.  Washam added a RBI triple in Evangel’s two run seventh too close the gap to 9-4.

Taylor Kistor got the loss for Evangel in her collegiate debut allowing five earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out two in 4.2 innings.

Evangel travels to Batesville, Arkansas on Saturday to take on Lyon (Ark.) in a doubleheader.  Game time is noon for the first of two games.
